The Ultimate Bachelorette Party

The bachelorette party is one of the highlight events of being a bridesmaid, but planning them can be a challenge.

310_521200408252_3762_nThe bachelorette party is a staple aspect of wedding ritual — and certainly one of the most fun. But when you’re a bridesmaid and tasked with organizing this delightful event, you face certain challenges – and they don’t come from the bride. Here are some tips for planning a bachelorette party.

To start, many people have different ideas as to what is “fun.” A sleepy bachelorette party for the wild and crazies, might feel completely off the wall for the bride’s small town crew. Some may be unwilling to travel, while others are always up for adventure. The level of tawdry can certainly influence certain individual’s enjoyment, taking the party from zero to one hundred in a matter of minutes with each sip of a funny-shaped straw or lap dance from a well-meaning gentleman from the club.

Overall, organizing a bachelorette party sounds much easier than it actually is. My advice is to start planning early. Send an email to the group well in advance to get a general headcount for the festivities. Include a rough schedule, estimated cost structure and then ask for feedback by a certain date. You will right away have an understanding as to who is in and who is on the fence. Work with the other bridesmaids to see if you are on the right track.

Then, start making loose plans. When contacting venues, give them a range of participants. For example, mention that dinner will be for a large party of 8-12 people. It is perfectly within your rights to set up a reservation down the line, and then tweak the commitment as you get closer. If you have to make a monetary  commitment to any venue, guarantee it for two weeks out. If anyone on the guest list bails after that point, they are responsible for paying for that share.  Plan to have at least 2 people back out at the last minute. It’s just the way that it is.bachelorette-party-ideas

And most of all, when the night finally does arrive, expect that you are going to have to close the gaps for people who might not properly contribute from an expense standpoint. Prepare yourself for this and you won’t take it personally – it just comes with the territory.

The more you plan ahead, the easier it will be for you to have the best night ever.

Remember this: It’s going to be expensive, it’s going to hurt the next day. But in the moment, you better make sure that the only person who has a better time than you is the bride.
